We had some friends over for the Super Bowl last night, it was a low-key event at our house this year because of the snowstorm, but a great night. Normally I spend most of the day in the kitchen, preparing for a Super Bowl feast, and miss most of the game because I am still... Continue Reading →
Open to Suggestion
“Are you planning to mow the grass today?” I asked my teenaged son one day over the summer and he replied with an honest, “Nope.” I suggested that my teenaged daughter do her laundry last week, and she said no thank you. Now, as the mom I have a choice to get upset with my... Continue Reading →
More Than I Bargained For
After several days in Amsterdam I had a craving for my daily fruit/vegetable juice and went to my trusty Trip Advisor app to find a juice shop. It was a good distance away, involving taking a tram and walking several blocks in an area I had not yet seen. At first I was hesitant, but... Continue Reading →
Facebook Quote
A friend of mine posted this on Facebook last week: When we think we fully 'know' someone such as a spouse, best friend, parent, etc. we stop actively listening to them. We don't fully hear them anymore. We think we know them well enough to know what they are going to say next, or their... Continue Reading →
Permission (For Women Only)
I'm not sure when it happened, but a couple of months ago my friend and I were making plans to meet at the gym for a group fitness class. I mentioned that I was desperate to do anything - even put my winter white self into a swimsuit and I don't know....swim? We looked at... Continue Reading →
Southern Green Beans
My friend asked me to post this recipe, it's a staple in our house to the point that I've never really seen it written down. Because of the bite of vinegar and the sweet of sugar, it's a dish that people either love or really don't. There is nothing healthy about this dish except for... Continue Reading →
Jesus Didn’t Die on The Cross for Me (Or for You)
This was written by one of my all-time favorite people, a woman who has taught me so much over the years, and happens to be my daughter.
From the time I was able to understand the idea of dying on a cross, up until just a few weeks ago, I honestly thought, “Big deal. If everyone’s life was at stake, I would die on the cross for them too.”
The truth is, having your hands and feet nailed to wood, wearing a crown of thorns and hanging by your hands for hours is incredibly painful- but it’s just not that big of a deal.
But obviously, Jesus dying for us was, in fact, a HUGE deal.
So, what are we missing?
Luke 22: 39-46 is all about Jesus praying on the Mount of Olives right before he was crucified. After reading this scripture, it is obvious that Jesus was terrified of what was coming. It says He was literally sweating blood, He kept praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken…

The Reason I am Excited about Fifty Shades of Grey
My family went to see a movie together on Christmas Day and watched several three minute trailers for upcoming movies, as you do. When we see a movie, we usually react to the future films, making faces or nodding in agreement that we're going to see that one. The advertisement for Fifty Shades of Grey... Continue Reading →
Choices
No one will know if I choose to drink a chocolate milkshake instead of a fruit and vegetable smoothie today. And no one will know if I decide to skip my workouts for the week. Of course, that milkshake is going to make the workout tougher to endure, if I do it at all. And... Continue Reading →
Not Not a Negative
We were driving in our neighborhood several years ago and saw a girl in my daughter’s grade taking a walk. I vaguely knew the child’s family and I also knew that she was very popular at school so I asked my child, “Is so-and-so a nice girl?” Her response was quick, “Well, she’s not not...
