Live a Little

Open up your junk drawer and show me how many gift cards you currently have. We have several cards from our favorite local restaurants, and yet we go to other places for dinner and pay full price. I just found two Visa gift cards in my wallet that have less than $20 combined, no idea why. I was curious, so I looked it up and in the US at any given time between 10% and 19% of all gift cards are unredeemed, and 6% are never used. What is wrong with us? For some reason, it seems like if you don’t use it immediately, it is very easy to forget that you have it, or maybe we just become comfortable with the knowledge we have it and that can seem better than using it.

There are people who have thousands of miles for traveling, they keep accumulating more with credit card purchases, but don’t bother actually booking a trip. Or how about those who have a classic car covered in the garage that they rarely drive? Fancy jewelry never worn? Special dishes that don’t see the light of day. We have a timeshare that we haven’t used in years, but that’s a different story.

I want to encourage you to use the points, miles and gift cards that you have. Don’t wait, life is short. Go on that trip you’ve always wanted to take, or at least start planning for it. Drain those gift cards and pull out the fancy dishes or give them to someone who will!

And if you know anyone interested in a timeshare, send them our way….
