Here We Go

messMy guy and I have started on a new journey to good health. He got some bad news back from his blood work last month, and we are trying to avoid medication. We will be meeting with his doctor later this week, but on our own have been doing a lot of research, experimenting and planning. It’s good that it has happened right at the New Year, because information seems more available and motivation is high for those around us, as well. Once we find our routine, this will be a new way of life for us, not a resolution to try to keep.

Options abound when it comes to eating well; there’s eating clean foods, avoiding fat, avoiding calories, avoiding carbs, vegetarian and vegan that we are looking at each day. It’s daunting, but I am enjoying having my guy walk the aisles of the grocery store with me, checking labels and making decisions that normally are completely up to me. Honestly, I have wanted to re-vamp our food choices for years but haven’t had the motivation or support to do it, so this is an opportunity that I appreciate. Mostly. Part of me wants the freedom to go back to eating what we want when we want it.

But more of me wants my guy healthy and here for a long time. My numbers don’t indicate that I need this radical shift in diet, but my heart tells me it’s the right thing to do for him, and for me. This is for both of us, because we are one.

The other part of this lifestyle change is the need for more exercise. I can get on board with this aspect for a while, but lose steam when there is no goal in sight. My guy knows this, so we researched local races in the next few months, and found a half marathon scheduled for April. That is pure motivation for me, exactly what I needed. My guy has always been athletic and works out regularly, he doesn’t necessarily need this race to get healthy, but he’s willing to do it for me. This is for both of us, because we are one.

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one. Genesis 2:24
