Glitter and Crumbs

Recently my guy and I attended a gala for the Children’s Hospital, a night to get dolled up and raise money for a good cause. I had heard that this was an especially dressy occasion, so I bought a silver glitter dress that I had been eyeing for a while. The night of the event, I put on the dress and realized I was a glitter bomb; dropping hundreds of specks of glitter every time I moved. It was too late to do anything about it, I went with it and proceeded to confetti the world like when your child made her first creative project all by herself. With the entire container of glitter.

We spent the night downtown and as we were leaving the hotel my guy teased that they would probably charge us extra for cleaning the room. He had placed the dress in a bag and I doubt it will ever be removed. We went out for breakfast and within a few minutes I had crumbs down the front of me from the scone I was enjoying, and he was once again cleaning me up.  It occurred to me that the previous 12 hours was a good illustration for what I bring to the marriage: glitter and crumbs. I tend to be the messy one, dropping things as I go and trying to do too much at once while the man I married is more precise and cannot tolerate having dirty hands. Oscar and Felix.

Now I have a choice in how I view our differences, I can get down on myself for being a hot mess most of the time, and feel inferior against the consistency and organization of my spouse, or I can do what he does. He says he appreciates the color I bring into his otherwise colorless world. I think I will try to be a little more like him, but only in this regard. By the way, if you’re looking to make a big impression at a special event, I have got the dress for you!

  1. Confetti the world haha. That certainly brightened my mood just thinking about it…also, your husband saying you bring color to his colorless world is such a huge compliment. As Maya Angelou said…be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud…keep shinning 🌹
